Dang! You can see the drop starts in 2013 which may mean the water was contaminated before 2014 when news broke about the crisis?
I think they switched water supply in 2015. Don't know which month.
Thanks for the comments and questions. The crisis began around April 2014 when they switched the city to an interim and untreated water source (the Flint River). This has previously been the water source (in the 1960s), but the pipes had not been treated since then.
A rate below or near 50 percent mortality is lower than LDCs isnt it?
I don’t think it is mortality rate. But fertility rate
Right. There are fertility rates.
Fertility rate is also known as the birth rate. According to the article, it has gone down by 12 percent in Flint. By comparison, lead in the drinking water in Washington DC in the 2000s led to a similar decline in the birth rate. Fetal death rates have also gone up (will post again)
The fetal death rate in Flint has gone up by 58 percent, and this is considered an underestimation. Terrible
A report by Grossman and Slusky that I read on Mother Jones days that there have been 275 fewer births in Flint than we would have expected with a clean water supply.
Yes, the Grossman/Slusky study has been getting alot of attention.
